✦ Synopsis

We describe a model for iodide transport in thyroid slices incubated in vitro. This model is based on the anatomical structure of the slices and the experiments of Doniach and Logothetopoulos.

Assuming that the flows are instantaneously adjusted to the pools, we obtain a compartmental model. Its stationary state is demonstrated and its compartmentalization is justified by the rapid diffusion of iodide,

The sensitivity analysis determines the best period of time for the determination of the turnover rates.

The simulation of the radioactivity curves in the "cell" and "lumen" compartments suggests an experimental test of the kinetic model by autoradiography.
