✦ Synopsis
A computer programming technique of using extended transfer matrix method to the analysis of torsion-and-flexure-coupled vibration of a damped multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) shafting system subjected to external excitations is presented. A computer program based on the presented algorithm is then developed and the given data for the examples in the existing literature are input. It is found that the output of the computer program agrees with the corresponding results of the existing information. Finally, the coupled dynamic behavior of a damped MDOF shafting system is investigated. For convenience of comparison, in addition to the coupled natural frequencies and the coupled forced vibration-response amplitude of each disk, both the pure (or uncoupled) natural frequencies in torsional vibration and in flexural vibration and the pure (uncoupled) forced torsional vibration-response amplitudes are also determined. The work has applications to marine propulsion systems.
