✦ Synopsis
Responding to the increase in computer crimes cases 1 in the last couple of years, the Government of the Hong Kong SAR established an Inter-departmental Working Group on Computer Related Crime (the Working Group) in March 2000. The Working Group, with representatives from various Government bureaux and departments, was tasked with studying the adequacy of Hong Kong legislation in dealing with computer and Internet crimes and identifying areas where changes would be required. In September 2000 the Working Group submitted a report of its findings. The report was released for consultation on 1 December 2000. The recommendations made by the Working Group in its report are summarized and analyzed briefly in this article.
