โœฆ Synopsis

A description is given of the requirement for computeraided design facilities at the Rutherford Laboratory which arose as part of its research work in high energy physics. This work quickly established a need for interactive computing and later for the installation of smaller computers to process the CAD routines and optimize the use of the central processing unit.
