✦ Synopsis
Hydraulic coupling design -From the author's experience of the design and application of hydraulic couplings, a mathematical analysis is made which uses conventional design formulae and general roto-dynamic theory. The solution of the equations for torque capacity, Reynolds numbers, and the various efficiency losses could well become laborious by hand methods, particularly if it became necessary to present a detailed picture at close intervals of slip throughout the operating range. These repetitive calculations therefore can be carried out on a digital computer. For complete innovations in design, where the construction and subsequent modification of a prototype would prove costly, the use of an analogue computer as a simulator should yield useful information and reduce the amount of experimental work required.
