โœฆ Synopsis

This paper presents application of computational modeling to four problems of industrial importance. The problems include ventilation and fire spread in highway tunnels, chemical vapor infiltration for manufacturing fiber-reinforced composites, refining hearths used for elimination of impurities in high-performance alloys, and the transport processes in a cement kiln. The noteworthy physical and computational features of each problem are described and some selected results are shown along with comparison with measurements.

Unsteady convective heat transfer in turbulent pipe flow has been computationally investigated, by means of transient simulations, using different turbulence models. The transient analysis was preceded by a steady-state study, where no substantial differences in the performances of the considered tw
