โฆ Synopsis
It is widely held that c o m p u t a t i o n with R o m a n numerals is difficult if not i m p o s s i b l e ) By presenting simple p r o c e d u r e s for adding and multiplying with R o m a n numerals, we show that this c o m m o n idea is mistaken. We also suggest that its acceptance arises from the m i s t a k e n belief that c o m p u t a t i o n s in different numeral systems will m i r r o r one another, a belief which can be explained as depending upon a confusion of n u m e r a l s with numbers.
