Tethered and free-flying manned hot air balloons have been demonstrated as platforms for various remotesensing and in situ atmospheric chemistry measurements. These platforms are comparatively inexpensive to operate; do not cause atmospheric disturbances, as do higher speed platforms; and are extrem
