✦ Synopsis

Eight collective samples of terminal cymose in¯orescences of Hypericum foliosum Aiton were collected on ®ve islands of the Azores (S. Jorge, S. Miguel, Pico, Terceira and Faial). The essential oils isolated by hydrodistillation to estimate the oil yields, and by distillation±extraction to determine the percentage composition of the oils, were analysed by GC and GC±MS. The oil yield varied between 0.10% and 0.25% and the main components (45%) were n-nonane (29±73%), limonene (7±46%), terpinolene (1±19%), b±caryophyllene (1±7%) and b-pinene (0.3±6%). With the exception of one oil sample from S. Jorge, cluster analysis showed a high degree of similarity between the populations studied.

## Abstract Here we report, for the first time, the results of detailed GC and GC/MS analyses of the essential oil of a rare taxon in Serbia, __Hypericum elegans__ Stephan ex Willd. One hundred and sixty two constituents identified accounted for 98.6% of the oil. The major components of the oil wer

The volatiles isolated from the leaves and flowers of fnufa viscosa (L.) Ait. were studied by means of GC and GC-MS. The oil obtained by hydrodistillation was shown to contain borneol (25.2%), bornyl acetate (19.5%) and isobornyl acetate (22.5%) as major constituents, whereas that isolated first by
