## Abstract Here we report, for the first time, the results of detailed GC and GC/MS analyses of the essential oil of a rare taxon in Serbia, __Hypericum elegans__ Stephan ex Willd. One hundred and sixty two constituents identified accounted for 98.6% of the oil. The major components of the oil wer

✦ Synopsis
Eight collective samples of terminal cymose in¯orescences of Hypericum foliosum Aiton were collected on ®ve islands of the Azores (S. Jorge, S. Miguel, Pico, Terceira and Faial). The essential oils isolated by hydrodistillation to estimate the oil yields, and by distillation±extraction to determine the percentage composition of the oils, were analysed by GC and GC±MS. The oil yield varied between 0.10% and 0.25% and the main components (45%) were n-nonane (29±73%), limonene (7±46%), terpinolene (1±19%), b±caryophyllene (1±7%) and b-pinene (0.3±6%). With the exception of one oil sample from S. Jorge, cluster analysis showed a high degree of similarity between the populations studied.

The volatiles isolated from the leaves and flowers of fnufa viscosa (L.) Ait. were studied by means of GC and GC-MS. The oil obtained by hydrodistillation was shown to contain borneol (25.2%), bornyl acetate (19.5%) and isobornyl acetate (22.5%) as major constituents, whereas that isolated first by
The composition of the essential oils isolated from the aerial parts of Teucrium heterophyllum L'HCr. collected during the flowering period and the vegetative phase of the plant, was analysed by GC and GC-MS. Both oils, which were obtained in a yield lower than 0.05% (vlw), were dominated by sesquit
The essential oil of aerial parts of Porophyllum ruderale (Jacq.) Cass. was analysed by HRGC, HRGC±MS (quadrupole) and 26 components (93% of the total composition) were identi®ed. The enantiomeric distribution of b-pinene, sabinene, 4-terpineol and a-terpineol was studied by multidimensional HRGC±HR
The essential oil of Satureja brownei (SW.) Briq., was studied by GC and GC±MS. A yield of 0.12% of oil (v/w) was obtained. The main constituents found were pulegone (64.3%), menthone (20.2%), isomenthone (3.4%) and isopulegone (2.4%).
AytacË & BasË er are endemic species in Turkey. Water-distilled essential oils from the ¯owering spike of these plants were analysed by GC±MS. b-Pinene (35%), 1,8-cineole (15%) and a-pinene (15%) were the main components in the oil of S. vuralii, while b-caryophyllene (8%) and caryophyllene oxide (7
