We show that a known restriction on the cardinalities of closures of subspaces of scattered spaces, 1 A 1 S 2'\*', cannot be improved to 1 A 1 s 1 A I", f or any A. We then find a wide class of T.34. scattered spaces which have no scattered compactification: the:{: spaces are derived from regular fi
