Abstract

It is necessary that a database systematically store and manage various kinds of images and quickly synthesize a new image using the stored images. This paper describes a new method to manage material image data which are suitable for image synthesis and the synthesized images. The method uses โ€œcomponent images for synthesis,โ€ each of which is based on its meaning such as โ€œflowerโ€ or โ€œperson.โ€ These are stored and managed to synthesize an image. Unlike conventional methods, this method allows a stored synthesized image to be altered easily. The usefulness of the method was confirmed by an experimental system. The system can store standard TV images and highโ€resolution images (for Highโ€Vision images and print images) which can be used for the synthesis of an image.

This paper reports a novel technique to synthesize new images from two original views snapped by a weakly calibrated perspective camera. The synthesis process is based on disparity interpolation and rectiยฎcation and it requires neither 3D-scene information nor additional constraints from the two ori
