β¦ Synopsis
C omplications of liver transplantation unfortu- nately occur, and they occur in patients who often have had serious and complex medical problems before transplantation. Metabolic, physiological, and pharmacodynamic changes greatly affect their preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. These interactions may cloud an understanding of complicating events.
This short review addresses some of the major issues of perioperative complications in liver transplant recipients. Awareness of such problems will help guide decision making and hopefully aid in the prevention of morbidity and mortality.
