✦ Synopsis

Complexes of the type Fe(qo), have been prepared, where qoH = I nitroso-2-naphthol, 2-nitroso-I -naphthol, phenanthrene-9, IO-quinonemono-oxime, 5-methoxy-2-nitrosophenol, 5-methyl-2-nitrosophenol and 4,5-dimethyl-2-nitrosophenol. Some of the complexes react with hydrochloric acid to give FeCl(qo), and are reduced by sodium or potassium iodide to give M[Fe(qo),]. The magnetic susceptibilities, and electronic, i.r., mass and Mijssbauer spectra of the complexes Fe(qo),, FeCl(qo), and M[Fe(qo)3] have been investigated. In all complexes the metal has a low-spin electron configuration. The NO group of the ligand is probably bonded to the metal through the nitrogen atom. The complexes Fe(qo)3 are monomeric in chloroform. The complexes FeCl(qo)2 are dimeric in chloroform and the complexes M[Fe(qo),]

are I :l electrolytes in acetonitrile.
