✦ Synopsis

This work compiles information concerning the total, inelastic and diffractive cross sections for proton-nucleus interactions. The values are fitted together with the expression σ = σ 0 A α , where A is the target atomic mass number. Also discussed is the amplitude of the diffractive components of the inelastic cross section.

Considering the high-energy limit of the QCD gluon distribution inside a nucleus, we calculate the proton-nucleus total inelastic cross section using a simplified dipole model. We show that, if gluon saturation occurs in the nuclear surface region, the total cross section of proton-nucleus collision

Proton reaction cross-section measurements on various stable and neutron-rich nuclei ( 4,6 He, 7-9 Li, 9-11 Be, 21-24 F, 22-26 Ne, 25-29 Na and 29-32 Mg) were performed via the attenuation method at intermediate energies (∼ 35-75 A MeV) and using a cryogenic hydrogen target. The results are discusse
