โฆ Synopsis
Magnetometry and MSssbauer spectroscopy have been utihzed to study the high-To compounds RBazCuaO7, RBa2Cu4Oa, R2CuO4, and Bl2Sr2CaCu208 and a wide variety of substituted systems. It was found that m all systems, the substltutmn of elements leads to a suppressmn of superconduct~vlty (SC) and to an enhancement of antfferromagnet~sm (AF).

Muon spin relaxation measurements in zero magnetic field on several polycrystalline samples provide evidence that superconductivity and magnetic order do not coexist on a microscopic scale but develop inhomogeneously in Cel+xCu2+rSi2. The distribution of magnetic and superconducting domains depends
The van Hove singularity can enhance structural and magnetic instabilities, which can compete with superconductivity. Evidence for such instabilities, including dynamical fluctuations and pseudogaps, is presented.
