✦ Synopsis

A novel continuous model of the ¯at two-layer superconducting cable is developed aiming to reconcile apparent contradictions of the accepted classical models. It is shown that after certain modi®cations, parameters and equations of these models can be safely cross-used leading to the non-contradictory description of eddy currents and the loss in a wide frequency range of the applied magnetic ®eld. The ®rst time constant of the time constant spectrum obtained in the network model and describing the rate of induced currents decay is close to the time constant governing the loss per cycle versus frequency dependence based on the general continuous model. The last dependence is easily described via main cable parameters and practically coincides with that calculated in the matrix approach to the network model, etc.
