Three different materials, kaolin, pozzolana and biolite (a material used in a commercial anaerobic fluidized bed treatment process) when tested as supports for an anaerobic fluidized bed system had similar physical and fluidization properties but behaved differently towards the biomass hold-up. However. all three D'stems attained similar removal efficiencs rates.
