✦ Synopsis

Square-wave stnppmg voltammograms of lead and mercury mechamcally transferred to the surface of a paraffm impregnated graphite electrode by abrasion are compared with the responses of these metals on the same electrode after their electrodeposltlon from solutlon In the case of lead, the abrasion method appears to give nse to the formatIon of small, well-separated patches of polycrystalhne metalhc lead on the electrode surface Smnlarly, the square-wave response for oxldatlon of mercury attached to the electrode by adhesion IS dtierent to that for an electrochermcally deposlted so-called mercury thm film electrode, unplymg that the nature of metal layers on the graphde surface does depend on the method of metal transfer Despite the apparent differences m the films formed by mechamcal transfer and electrochemxal deposItion of metals, the vanation of the oxldatlon strlppmg peaks on the square wave signal parameters 1s independent of the accumulation method
