โฆ Synopsis
Although the arterial blood showed no indication of respiratory or metabolic changes, the mean pH value of the eisternal CSF was found to be 0.021 pH units higher, and the mean Pco, 2.53 mm Hg lower, than the corresponding values in simultaneously sampled lumbar CSF.
Materials
Al%eria] blood and eisternal CSF were simultaneously obtained from 9 subjects and from 23 other subjects arterial blood and lumbar CSF.
From 15 other subjects we simultaneously sampled arterial blood, cisternal CSF and lumbar CSF. Methods 1. Arterial blood sampling. We obtained 5 ml blood from the brachlal artery under anaerobic conditions, using a Luer Lok syringe of which the dead space had been filled with a diluted heparin solution. The blood was not sampled until the moment of CSF sampling.
