Given a Hamiltonian action of a Lie group G on a symplectic manifold M there is an induced map 0 : M -+ g\*, where g \* is the dual space to the Lie algebra, g, of G. The map 0 is called the moment map. Any function P on g\* then gives rise to a function M = P 0 Cp on M which is a "collective Hamilt
