โฆ Synopsis
Two populations of wild elvers caught from 2 Moroccan (Atlantic and Mediterranean) estuaries were separately reared in tanks under similar experimental conditions.
Growth performances (length, weight and otolith microstructure) have been compared: The evolution of the growth during the first 3 nionths of the rearing showed that Mediterranean elvers had a satisfactory growth performance compared to Atlantic ones: relative variability in size and weight was respectively 1.21 and 2.01 in Mediterranean elvers and 1.12 and 1.47 in Atlantic elvers.
The observation of the otolith microstructure showed that the otolith grew on, even during the initial decrease of the elver growth. The marginal increment of the otolith was about 25 pm per month (0.83 pm per day).
