โœฆ Synopsis

A comparison between numerical results obtained by using the finite-element method and experimentally obtained results for cold plate rolling found in the literature is presented here. The material parameters are chosen as representative of the aluminum material employed in these experiments. A friction model is used with a non-linear dependence of the frictional stress on the normal contact pressure. The model prescribes a transition between Coulomb friction and a constant friction shear stress depending on a representative flow stress value. Two different assumptions of the representative flow stress value are used in the computations. The contact interface between the plate and the rolls is described by using interface elements, and plane-strain rolling is assumed. The numerically determined variations of the contact stresses are shown to be in reasonably good agreement with the results of experiments.
