We generalize a recent result of Haagerup; namely, we show that a convolution with a standard Gaussian random matrix regularizes the behavior of Fuglede-Kadison determinant and Brown spectral distribution measure. In this way, it is possible to establish a connection between the limit eigenvalues di

Comparison Measurements on Regular Spectral Transmittance
A comparison ojthe scales of regular spectral transmittance of the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) and the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) was made using a set of 3 absorption neutral-density glassjlters and a flat piece of UV grade synthetic silica. The nominal transmittances of the samples were 0.01, 0. I, 0.5, and 0.93. The spatial transmittance profrle and the temperature coefJicient of spectral transmittance of the filters were measured. A good agreement wus found between the results oj-SP and HUT, since mosl of the dijiwnces in transmittance values arc within the relative standard uncertainty of the comparison ranging from 0.2-2% (level of confidence 68%).0 1996 John Wiky & Sori.s. A probability measure in R d is called a spectral measure if it has an orthonormal basis consisting of exponentials. In this paper, we study spectral Cantor measures. We establish a large class of such measures, and give a necessary and sufficient condition on the spectrum of a spectral Cantor measu
