The principal aim of this study was to characterize the transmitter mechanisms mediating fast postsynaptic potentials in identified neurons of the rat nucleus accumbens. Using the biocytin-avidin labeling technique, impaled neurons were identified as medium spiny neurons. The basic membrane characte
