✦ Synopsis

Results of two pot experiments comprising foliar sprays of sulphuric acid and sequestrene 138 Fe alone and in combination with elemental sulphur with calcareous soils of Agronomy farm of the College of Agriculture, Udaipur showed that the application of elemental sulphur, sulphuric acid and sequestrene 138 Fe increased the dry matter yield of corn plants in the order named. These treatments increased the activities of haematin enzymes -catatase and peroxidase two to three times and also the chlorophyll content. Iron chlorosis in these conditions appears to be on account of reduced supply of physiological available iron at the site of biosynthesis of prophyrins in the plant system.
