Waters Corporation and PerkinElmer Inc. have entered into a longterm collaboration to deliver and support advanced newborn screening solutions. The packaged solutions combine Waters MS and LC instrumentation and control software with PerkinElmer's proprietary chemistries, proven methodologies, and LIMS software. Under the terms of the agreement, PerkinElmer will become the exclusive distributor of Waters Quattro micro and Quattro Premier tandem quadrupole mass spectrometers and Alliance HPLC system for neonatal screening applications. PerkinElmer will market the co-branded products to clinical laboratories and supply them with consumables as an all-in-one, fully-supported solution for newborn screening applications. The two companies are collaborating on the installation and support of a tandem mass spectrometry-based platform in California as part of that states expanded newborn screening program. Eksigent Technologies' recently launched NanoLC-1D system is configured with a third pump for rapid sample loading and washing. This feature assures significant time saving and flexibility. Operation of the third pump is controlled by the system software, and all the company's nano-LC systems are integrated with Thermo Xcalibur and Applied Biosystems/MDS SCIEX Analyst MS software. A new pump and flow controller technology allows precise operation at higher pressure (5500 psi) for higher resolution in nanobore columns. An innovative flow meter design improves flow precision for a wider variety of mobile phases. Proprietary microfluidic technology eliminates the need for flow splitting, thus enhancing reproducibility and sensitivity and saving costly solvent.
