Abstract
A novel compact ultra‐wideband antenna with band‐notched function is proposed and implemented. The radiating patch consists of a binomial function edge and is fed by coplanar waveguide. The size of the UWB antenna is minimized to 30 × 27.4 mm^2^. A new type of π‐shaped slot is embedded to obtain the band‐notched characteristic in the 5 GHz WLAN band. The center frequency of the notched band can be varied from 5.2 to 5.8 GHz by properly selecting the parameter values. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
