✦ Synopsis
The belief that non-Western nations of the developing world, which have an authoritarian and anti-democratic tradition that renders difficult the applicability of community psychology, is considered. A position is taken on behalf of a universal community psychology. Based on the author's teaching experience in a university setting in Turkey, various community psychology concepts such as the "sense of community" and "person-environment" fit are discussed and a case is made for the community psychologist taking an explicit ideologically progressive position.
