Intelligent functions in packaging can have all kinds of forms. This paper focuses on methods of identifying a packaging and other important tasks which can be performed after identi®cation: tracing, tracking, monitoring and sensing of conditions. The recent developments in ID-technology and sensor technology make it possible to integrate intelligent identi®cation tasks in low-cost packaging systems in logistic usage.
