✦ Synopsis

In reference [1] a theoretical analysis is made of the natural modes of a square plate with four point supports symmetrically placed along the plate diagonals. The authors have compared their results to those of the present writer [2] and noted good agreement except for a certain range of support location (see second paragraph, page 390 of reference [1]). The purpose of this letter is to point out that this apparent difference is due to the fact that the lowest frequency mode changes with support position (see Figure 1 of reference [3]). Hence the apparent difference is resolved.

The vibration of a thin plate lying on point supports is considered. The supports form an orthogonal, two-dimensionally periodic array, and can exert both translational and rotational constraints. The response to a convected harmonic pressure is determined by using Fourier transforms and the structu
