Abstract
A comparison of experimental and theoretical values for ฮฮฑ = ฮฑ~e~ โ ฮฑ~g~, assuming no sigmaโelectron contribution, shows a great distortion by ฯโelectron calculations. We analyze existing electrochromic data, using this assumption, and report ฮฮฑ values of 44 ร ^3^ for coronene and 43 ร ^3^ for triphenylene. Some general properties of ฮฮฑ are discussed in terms of potential energy curves which suggest interesting calculations to relate excited matrix elements with experimental measurements.
