✦ Synopsis
Dear Sir,
In the above referenced paper, the authors show that the method of estimating monthly-average daily radiation described in overestimates beam radiation on surfaces not oriented towards the equator and presents an improved method which accounts for the variation in the atmospheric transmittance during the day. The authors are apparently unaware of a later paper[2] which also presents an analytical method for estimating the radiation on inclined surfaces accounting for the diurnal variation of atmospheric transmittance. Reference [2] draws similar conclusions for U.S. locations regarding the overestimation of beam radiation caused by the assumption of constant atmospheric transmittance as reported.by the authors for two Yugoslavian locations.
