✦ Synopsis
It is indicated that severai early papers on the Fe@) (S= 1 )-O&T= 1) theory of bonding for the Fe-O2 linkage of oxyhaemo globin and oxymyoglobin have been overlooked in most subsequent publications. Valence bond considerations are used to help show that the results of a recent CASSCF study by Yamamoto and Kashiwagi do not preclude the possibility that the primary mode of Fe-02 bonding could involve the Fe(H) (S= l)-O#= 1) formulation.
