From Strang the Terrible, Wilson, Alf Tupper and Braddock to Lord Snooty, Desperate Dan and Denis the Menace, the comic was a world of wonder, excitement and imagination to many of our older, and perhaps not so old, readers. What was the appeal of such magazines? They were eye-catching to the young, stimulated the imagination, had a good story to tell and, indirectly, they educated the reader by the communication of ideas-not always savoury ones. While anyone would hesitate to refer to the Society's Journal as a comic-although it has sometimes been so designated in jest-the purposes of the Journal are not so far removed from those of a comic. It must be pleasing to the eye, its contents should inform, stimulate and educate the reader, and it should support all those involved in the forensic sciences in the execution of their professional activities.
