MEETING REPORTS Combustion Institute European Symposium
Over four hundred participants tr~. qled to Sheffield front twenty-five countries, some as "at at~ld as Australia, Argentina, and Japan, to attend the Combustion Institute European Symposium. They were kept busy throughout the week of 16--21st September. when one hundre~ ~., ,~. ;--,W papers were presented at three p~ral]el ,.essions, in addition to a full a~l hishly mccesaSd social programme. The British Section ~.~ted as hosts for the mecth~, advimd by an international Honorary Committee chaired by Professor Sugden and a Local Organising Committee with Professor Be6r as its chairman. The British Section considered that the time was opportune for a joint symposium of European Sections, as many members would be unable to avel to Japan for the Iq74 International Syrnpos,,,r,, and it seemed unlikely that there could be a full lhternational Symposium in Europe for several yeats. The enthusiasm of participants and the number ~nd quality of papers submitted fully confirmed the timeliness of this ne~ venture.
