โฆ Synopsis
A method for combining the linear and quadratic discriminant functions is described and discussed. The method uses Box's test to form coalitions of populations which have equal covariance matrices and is particularly suited for use on a computer. A comparison between the performance of this method with those for the linear and quadratic discriminants reveals that the coalitions procedure is particularly useful in situations where the covariances are not known a priori to be equal.
