✦ Synopsis

The mutual interaction of tricalcium silicate (CRS) and B-dicalcium silicate (B-CpS) in their combined h~dration was studied. The rate of B-CpS hydration was accelerated significantly in the presenc~ of CRS. The rate of CRS hydration was retarded, but only i~ the presence of~large amounts of B-C2S. The stoichiometric composition and the pore structure of the hydrates formed was altered only unsignificantly when both compound hydrated simultaneously.

Based on conceptual models for the stages in the hydration of trlcalcium silicate, a mathematical model was developed. The very early hydration of C~S polymorphs was studied by measuring the change of specific surface area, heat evolution, composition of surface and analysis of the liquid phase. The results have been attributed to the formation of a primary reaction layer on the C2S surface. The properties of this
