Seal retainer plates are used to hold seals in place during assembly, preventing contamination or damage. However, their use can require deformation of the seal, they can be complex and costly to manufacture, and their installation can require the use of special tools. The seal retainer described in this patent is inexpensive and can be relatively easily manufactured and installed.
