Abstract

Experimental results are reported obtained on additively and substractively coloured SrCI~2~ crystals. By means of combined optical and ESR experiments the position of the F‐band could be located. It was found that 0^2‐^ impurities play an important role in the additive and substractive colouration process. The presence of O^2‐^ ions very strongly enhances the coagulation rate of electron excess centres formed during additive colouration. Models for radiation damage processes in O^2‐^ doped SrCI~2~ crystals are discussed.
