Scvcral aromatic kcto-osimcs have been used for the colorimctric determination of cobnltL-6. GUHA-SIRCAR
AND ~IIATTACHARYYA~
employed isonitrosodimcthyldihydrorcsorcinol(isonitrosodimedone)
for the grnvimetric determination of cobalt. The authors found that isonitrosodimcdone produced a directly weighable cobnltic comples of the formula, ;;.;gLy \ -NO------Co/j 3 Cl-l, co and no previous oxidation of the cobaltous ion was necessary. The aqueous solution of the organic reagent produced an orange red precipitate with cobalt and colorations only with iron, nickel, and copper ions. The USC of isonitrosodimcdone for the calorimetric determination of iron has been described by the author'. The object of the present investigation was to determine the value of isonitrosodimedone as a colorimctric rcagcnt for cobalt.
