โœฆ Synopsis

The detrimental effects of mas\ive fluid shift and the prolongation of operating time are often cited as reasons for hesitation in adopting 'intraoperative irrigation' for the treatment of left-sided colorectal obstruction'. Mechanical bowel preparation has been shown t o be unnecessary for elective colorcctal surgery?. Colonic decompression without intraopcrative irrigation may therefore simplify operation in acute left-sided colorectal obstruction; complete bowel cleansing is unnecessary.
