✦ Synopsis
In the absence of collisions, luminescence is observed upon irradiaaon of \ my1 cyanide molecules 11 ith rhe focused output from a CO2 TE_4 laser, namely, two broad, srructureless features. ar 390 nm and in rhe IR whose intensity depends hnearly on pressure from IO-' to 10" torr. At higher pressures, a collision induced emission component nppertrs. The time resolved fluorescence reheals ;1 fan rise, never longer than the CO2 laser pulse duration, and a much slower decay. The luminescence is believed to originate from a dissociation fragment.
