✦ Synopsis
CN B-X emission has been observed upon pulsed laser excitation of the A 'II v= 10 vibrational manifold, which is nearly isoenergetic with B *Z + v=O. Because of the B-A perturbation, a number of v,= 10 rotational levels have significant B state character. For short observation intervals, the B-X emission is excited most strongly when such perturbed levels are initially prepared. By contrast, B-X emission from unperturbed A state levels is observed to have a short induction period and is explained by collisional A-B transfer.
