✦ Synopsis
Collision-induced spin-orbit relaxation in a vibronically excited state CO + A 'Q2 ( V= 1) + He-&O+ A 'IIs& U= 1) + He has been investigated by using a flowing afterglow/time-resolved LIF technique. The rate constants k12(2111,2-+211S,2) and k2, (2119,2+211,,2) are determined to be k12+k2,= (3.0f0.3) x 10-'0cm3 molecule-' s-'. A comparison of the results with those for the neutral system NO X *II( II= 0) +He suggests that neither the positive charge on the ion nor the vibrational energy plays significant roles in the fast spin-orbit relaxation process.
