Design to building by c.a.d.
The shipbuilding division of Nippon Kokan KK has completed a comprehensive c.a.d, system for shipbuilding operations from designing to building. The NK-ASD system features are a database system, improved usage of graphic display equipment and direct control of n.c. equipment.
Since computers have been used in shipbuilding for some time many programs have been developed. As the programs have been developed independently they have used different formats, and information that is common to more than one cannot be utilized. In NK-ASD common data such as hull configuration and structure are filed in a database and can be extracted at will. Thus, the input loads for related programs are considerably decreased. As the data is in a single data source any confusion and conflict is eliminated.
The figure shows a functional outline of the system. The major programs are as follows:
