✦ Synopsis

Computers have been used in education for instruction and learning for two decades, but little attention has been paid to the way in which learners interact with screen displays and the ways in which their cognitive style and visual preferences may facilitate or inhibit their learning. This paper addresses the place of cognitive style and visual literacy in the use of computers for instruction, and asks whether having computers in classrooms is really only a case of another form of television. Research areas are suggested.
