โฆ Synopsis
The aim of this paper is to review the place of outpatient treatment in the management of anorexia nervosa. The theoretical background of one short form of psychotherapy, used in two randomized trials of outpatient therapy, is introduced. The practical application of this form of therapy, cognitive analytical therapy (CAT), is illustrated by its use in a case of severe anorexia nervosa. Finally, modifications of standard CAT for use in anorexia nervosa are discussed.
