This is quite a substantial book with 259 pages of text, a 16-page index and 24 pages of references. Of these 500-odd references, a respectable proportion are dated 1996±98. It is well illustrated with tables, ®gures and black-and-white photographs, many the author's own re¯ecting his extensive personal experience. Ken Willson trained as a chemist and has since spent many years working with plantation and perennial crops in Fiji, Kenya, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Senegal and Sri Lanka. He has also co-edited two substantial monographs on tea and coffee, and his extensive experience is immediately apparent
