Code of practice promotes electrical safety on building sites
A code of practice produced by the British Standards Institution on the installation and use of equipment for the distribution of electrical power supplies during construction work, CP 1017: 'Distribution of electricity on construction and building sites,' follows the publication last year of BS 4363, which specifies the design and construction of electrical distribution equipment suitable for use under the arduous conditions experienced on building sites. The code gives guidance on the correct usage of this special-purpose equipment and, in addition, states what is good practice for installations operating at voltages up to medium voltage (650 V). A precaution which has major safety implications is the colour coding of socket-outlets and couplers which is specified for each operating voltage.
