## Abstract Tribochemical reactions of PTFE with aluminum, silicon, and iron during rubbing were detected by ESCA. No apparent relationship between this chemical reaction of the fillers with the PTFE in the composite and the wear‐reducing action of those fillers on the composite material was found.
